It's complicated: A special video clip from Emily's college golf experience

Stay WholeIt is Stay Whole Tuesday and I’m still thinking about Junior Golf and how sports can shape a person’s life. Watching those talented kids compete on Sunday afternoon, and their parents in golf-spectator-mode, brought back a lot of memories. I will always remember Emily’s decision to pursue her love of fashion design and production, by accepting a golf scholarship to SCAD.

There is nothing easy about playing a college sport while juggling the demands of academics and college life. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it does not. Some of it is just luck and finding the right fit. The video below sums it up well and I wanted to share it here as it always makes me smile. Shout out to Emily’s talented teammate Corinne Gran-Woods, who produced the video.

Your mom and I are grateful to Coach Amanda Workman Haverstick and the opportunity she gave Emily. (See photo of baby Haverstick below – Ava!) Also thankful for top-notch golf instruction from Anne Marie Gildersleeve and Lonny Alexander, and what they meant to Emily through the years.

Speaking of juggling, I know you are faced with your own trials and tribulations as you continue to play your way through college during Covid-19. We sure are excited to have you home this weekend!

Stay whole my littlest one,

Dad

NUGGETS began in the fall of 2010 when our oldest daughter left for college. (Make it a Great Monday; Stay Whole Tuesday; Woman Power Wednesday; Make Anything Thursday; and Fit as a Fiddle Friday.) All these years later, we have a UGA grad, a SCAD grad, a Fightin’ Texas Aggie grad, and 1500 nuggets. Plus, Mum and Dad up and moved to England. Those are my daughters above, and their guiding light – truly my every gPage Singletary thing.

Dear Harvey: Staying in the Game

In the end, Harvey, you left us your Little Red Book—a lifetime of lessons condensed into something small enough to fit in a pocket, yet broad enough to guide generations. These letters are my attempt, in a much humbler way, to do the same—to gather what the game has taught me so far, and to keep discovering what lies at the edges.
