Stay Whole Tuesday: Port Sunlight

Stay Whole

Hello Lucy May,

Calling collect from Port Sunlight, England. Will you accept the charges? When I started my business career, a ‘pay phone’ was the only way to make a phone call from the road.

How does it feel to be finished with finals, coasting towards graduation, and have a job in your pocket? We are excited for you, so proud of you, and can’t wait to see you.

Port Sunlight is an interesting town I visited by train last week for some meetings with my client Unilever. Per Wikipedia: Port Sunlight is a model village and suburb in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, Merseyside. It is located between Lower Bebington and New Ferry, on the Wirral Peninsula. Port Sunlight was built by Lever Brothers to accommodate workers in its soap factory (now part of Unilever); work commenced in 1888. The name is derived from Lever Brothers’ most popular brand of cleaning agent, Sunlight.”

Changing trains on the way home, the whole train system remains a great adventure for me!

Here’s an excellent site to learn more about the town: BEAUTIFUL, UNIQUE AND THE PERFECT DAY OUT.

My wish for you is many days in your business career where you see unique places like Port Sunlight.

Love,

Dad

NUGGETS began in the fall of 2010 when our oldest daughter left for college. (Make it a Great Monday; Stay Whole Tuesday; Woman Power Wednesday; Make Anything Thursday; and Fit as a Fiddle Friday.) All these years later, we have a UGA grad, a SCAD grad, a Fightin’ Texas Aggie grad, and 1500 nuggets. Plus, Mum and Dad up and moved to England. Those are my daughters above, and their guiding light – truly my every gPage Singletary thing.

Dear Harvey: Staying in the Game

In the end, Harvey, you left us your Little Red Book—a lifetime of lessons condensed into something small enough to fit in a pocket, yet broad enough to guide generations. These letters are my attempt, in a much humbler way, to do the same—to gather what the game has taught me so far, and to keep discovering what lies at the edges.

Lateral Thinking & AI: The Future of Making

Lateral Thinking + AI is a five-part Make Anything Thursday series exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping not just the tools we use, but the way we think. From systems-level insight to the power of lateral thinking, the series connects AI with the human imagination — showing how creators, leaders, and future makers can thrive in a world where machines accelerate the work and our thinking elevates it.
