WPW: Julia Cameron

Woman Power IconGood morning daughters,

It is Woman Power Wednesday.

Your mom shared this podcast recently from Erin & Sara Foster, featuring Julia Cameron, who wrote The Artist’s Way. Skip to the 47-minute mark to hear the interview with Julia – a fascinating, remarkable woman.

Here’s a short bio from The Artist Way website:

“Hailed by the New York Times as “The Queen of Change,” JULIA CAMERON is credited with starting a movement in 1992 that has brought creativity into the mainstream conversation— in the arts, in business, and in everyday life. She is the best-selling author of more than forty books, fiction and nonfiction; a poet, songwriter, filmmaker and playwright. Commonly referred to as “The Godmother” or “High Priestess” of creativity, her tools are based in practice, not theory, and she considers herself “the floor sample of her own toolkit.” The Artist’s Way has been translated into forty languages and sold over five million copies to date.”

Takeaways for me:

  • “Many blocked people are very powerful and creative personalities who have been made to feel guilty about their own strengths and gifts.”
  • Find life partners who lift and propel you toward your dreams.
  • How sobriety affects creativity.
  • How jealousy shows us where we’re stuck and where we might need to explore getting a little uncomfortable to be more creative.
Good stuff,

Dad

NUGGETS began in the fall of 2010 when our oldest daughter left for college. (Make it a Great Monday; Stay Whole Tuesday; Woman Power Wednesday; Make Anything Thursday; and Fit as a Fiddle Friday.) All these years later, we have a UGA grad, a SCAD grad, a Fightin’ Texas Aggie grad, and 1500 nuggets. Plus, Mum and Dad up and moved to England. Those are my daughters above, and their guiding light – truly my every gPage Singletary thing.

Dear Harvey: Staying in the Game

In the end, Harvey, you left us your Little Red Book—a lifetime of lessons condensed into something small enough to fit in a pocket, yet broad enough to guide generations. These letters are my attempt, in a much humbler way, to do the same—to gather what the game has taught me so far, and to keep discovering what lies at the edges.

Lateral Thinking & AI: The Future of Making

Lateral Thinking + AI is a five-part Make Anything Thursday series exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping not just the tools we use, but the way we think.
